Where the water goes matters

Undersized, clogged, or failing gutters dump water where you don't want it, against the foundation, behind the fascia, and back onto the roof edge. Good gutters finish the job the roof starts.

A roof can be perfect and you can still end up with water in the basement if the gutters can't keep up. In a hard South-Central PA downpour, an undersized or clogged gutter sheets water straight over the edge, right against the foundation, exactly where you don't want it. Over a season or two that shows up as a damp basement, eroded landscaping, and washed-out mulch beds. In winter, gutters packed with leaves hold water that freezes, and that ice works its way back under the roof edge as an ice dam.

Our approach

How we do gutters

We size the system to your roof, install seamless gutters and proper downspouts, and add guards where leaves and debris are a problem so you're not up on a ladder every fall.

We form seamless gutter on site, cut to the exact length of each run, so the only seams are at the corners and outlets where they belong. Fewer seams means fewer places to leak and clog. We set the pitch so water actually moves toward the downspouts, size the system to how much roof is draining into it, and place the downspouts and extensions to carry that water well clear of the foundation.

If trees are the problem, and around here they usually are, we'll talk through guards honestly. They aren't magic, and we won't tell you they are, but on a house tucked under oaks and maples they save you the fall and spring ladder work and keep the system flowing when the leaves come down. We'll tell you where they earn their keep and where they don't.

We hang a proper K-style profile in a gauge that holds its shape instead of denting the first time a ladder leans on it, and we secure it with hidden hangers rather than the old spike-and-ferrule that works loose over the years. While we're up there we look at the fascia and the wood behind the gutter, because there's no point hanging new gutter on rotted board. Little choices like those are the difference between a system that lasts and one you're re-hanging in a few seasons.

Questions

Gutters, answered

Are gutter guards worth it?

If you have trees near the house, usually yes. Guards cut down on clogs and the ladder work that comes with them. We'll tell you honestly whether they make sense for your home.

How much do new gutters cost?

It depends on the length of the run, the number of downspouts, whether you add guards, and the gutter size. We measure your roof and give you a written price up front.

What size gutters do I need?

That depends on your roof's size and pitch and how much water it sheds in a hard rain. We size the system to your roof so it doesn't overflow in the storms that actually matter.

How do I know when it's time to replace my gutters?

Sagging, separating seams, peeling paint or water marks below the gutter, and water pooling at the foundation are the usual signs. If they're pulling away from the fascia, it's time.

Can you install gutters as part of a roof replacement?

Yes, and it's a natural time to do it since we're already up there. New gutters finish the water path the new roof starts. We can also do gutters on their own.

Do you offer free gutter estimates?

Yes. We measure the roof, size the system, and give you a written price at no cost.

What gutter material and colors do you offer?

Seamless aluminum gutters in a range of colors, cut to fit your roof on site so there are fewer seams to leak.

Do you install downspouts and extensions too?

Yes. We route downspouts and extensions to carry water well away from the foundation, which is the whole point of a good gutter system.

How long do seamless aluminum gutters last?

With reasonable care, seamless aluminum gutters commonly last 20 years or more. Guards and the occasional cleaning help them reach the top of that range.

Can you fix gutters that overflow or leak?

Yes. Overflow usually means the gutters are undersized, clogged, or pitched wrong. We can re-pitch, reseal, resize, or replace as needed.

What areas do you install gutters in?

We cover Lancaster and South-Central PA, including York, Harrisburg, Hershey, Reading, Carlisle, Lebanon, Mechanicsburg, and out toward West Chester.

How often do gutters need cleaning?

Twice a year is the usual rule, once after the leaves drop in fall and once in spring, but it depends entirely on how many trees hang over the house. If you're cleaning them more than that, guards are probably worth a look.

Do you replace rotted fascia or wood behind the gutters?

Yes. If the board the gutter hangs on is soft or rotted, we address it before we hang anything new, because a fresh gutter on failing wood just fails again. We'll show you what we find before we do the work.
